Victim in fatal shooting identified

Police are still searching for a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred in Madera.

According to Madera Police Lt. Brian Esteves, the victim, later identified as Michael Sanchez, 35, of Los Banos, was found dead Sunday morning. The body was located in a parking lot in the 700 block of Gateway Drive.

“We found him with a gunshot wound and evidence suggests that he had passed several hours prior,” Esteves said.

According to Esteves, Sanchez had family in Madera, and was likely in town to visit with them.
