Judge rejects bail drop for DUI

Another hearing for a suspected drunken driver accused of vehicular manslaughter has been scheduled for June 1.

According to District Attorney David Linn, Candice Ooley, 23, of Clovis, appeared in Madera County Superior Court before Judge Ernest LiCalsi for a bail review on May 26.

LiCalsi maintained Ooley bail at $250,000 at a hearing on whether to reduce it. Ooley's original bail was set at $155,000, but Linn requested the increase to its current amount.

Ooley was arrested on May 21, after she reportedly drove her 2014 Chevrolet Cruze into the back of a 2006 Hummer H3, killing Frederico Nunez Silva, 47, of Lemoore, and injuring three others on State Route 41 between Coarsegold and Oakhurst. After the crash, investigators determined that Ooley, who is six months pregnant, had a blood-alcohol level of .32, four times above the legal limit of .08...
