Stallions holds off Redskins to advance to semifinals

After recording the program’s first-ever playoff victory two days before, the Madera South Stallions softball team advanced to the semifinals of the Central Section Div. IV Valley Championship after a 5-4 upset over the Chowchilla Redskins.

The Stallions, seeded No. 6, defeated 12th-seeded Washington Union-Easton on May 18 and came back to score three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held off a Chowchilla rally to defeat the third-seeded Redskins.

Madera South travels to Tulare today to face the top-seeded Mission Oak-Tulare Hawks at 4:30 p.m.

A.J. Martinez led the Stallions at the plate and picked up the win in the circle. She had two hits with a double to lead the 10-hit attack. Maria Leal and Jessie Maciel also had two hits...
