Hawks softball dominate Sierra in mercy rule victory
This season, the Liberty Hawks softball team established a team theme — dominate.
Through the first seven games of the North Sequoia League season, the Hawks (No. 14 overall, No. 2 Div. III) have done just that, getting mercy-rule victories (leading by 10 or more runs after five innings) in six of seven NSL games, including Wednesday’s 11-1 victory over Sierra-Tollhouse.
“Our kids are backing up our domination theme,” head coach Leslie Wood said. “Sierra is better than they have been in the past, so it was good to see our girls step up. Their pitcher had six strikeouts. It’s nice to see them battle, too.”
Liberty’s first two hitters in the line-up recorded seven of the team-s 13 hits, scored five runs and drove in four of the eight RBIs. Lead-off batter Summer Mendoza was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and two RBIs. No. 2 hitter Johanna Lewis was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs...
