Speed a factor in overcross crash
An 18-year-old man suffered moderate injuries after veering off the roadway and crashing into the SR-59 overcrossing on Friday. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was traveling westbound on SR-152, veered onto the right shoulder, up the embankment, and collided with the overcrossing and guardrails. The driver claimed mechanical failure, however CHP found none. During the month of December, CHP Madera has investigated multiple crashes where seat belts had not been worn.

Three arrested for DUI over weekend
Early Saturday morning, the Madera Police Department’s weekend night shift patrol team made several arrests for driving under the influence in different parts of the City. Court rules approval for casino was invalid
COARSEGOLD — The California Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, finding that the Governor’s approval for the proposed North Fork casino project in Madera County was invalid from the beginning. Pedestrian dies after getting hit by a car
Madera Police Officers responded to the area of E. Kennedy Street and Tulare Street regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle striking a pedestrian early Friday morning. Officers and EMS arrived on scene and performed life-saving measures at the incident at about 6:45 a.m. Unfortunately, the pedestrian, a 60-year-old female, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The involved driver remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
