Man found shot and screaming in car in Chowchilla

A gang-related shooting in Chowchilla has left an unidentified man in critical condition after he was shot multiple times from another vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, according to police statements.

The drive-by shooting happened about 4:20 p.m., when Chowchilla police got calls of gunfire and a suspect shot inside a vehicle in the 200 block of Alameda Avenue. Residents say at least five shots were heard in the area.

Police found the male driver bloody and screaming for help in a green Honda that had crashed into the front yard of a nearby home, according to witnesses, and officers began attempting to help the bleeding man.

The investigation revealed several shell casings in the roadway where the shooting occurred. Officers believe the man was followed and then shot by an occupant of another vehicle. A parked vehicle also was damaged by the flying bullets.

No other information has been released at this time, and calls for further information had not returned as of press time.
