A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of double murder after two of his family members were killed with a 10-inch kitchen knife and a third family member critically stabbed.
The suspect, reportedly a nephew of the victims, had been in a drug-induced psychosis for several days, in the victims’ home in the 700 block of Pear Street, near Almond Avenue on the southeast side of Madera, according to Madera Police.
The incident happened Thursday, Aug. 30, about 5:45 p.m.
Dejon (aka Dejion) S. Walker was arrested a short time after he fled south and crashed a 2010 Toyota Camry belonging to a family member.
Betty Terrell and Tonya Terrell, reportedly Walker’s aunt and great aunt, both died of stab wounds on the way to the hospital, according to Madera Police. The third victim, a minor girl was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where she was treated over the weekend and released.
Residents in the area said they were shocked, and believed the women had been attempting to shelter and help their nephew off and on, when the stabbing occurred.
The large, bloody kitchen knife was found discarded in the driveway, near the sidewalk.
Walker was arrested by California Highway Patrol officers a few minutes later after he ran a stop sign on Road 30 at Avenue 12 and broadsided a woman driving east on Avenue 12 in a Camero. That driver suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP.
CHP Sgt. Lincoln McKenna said a radio report of the stabbing incident and stolen car had been put out to all area law enforcement and Walker had then fled the scene of the traffic collision and abandoned the car in a field shortly after the crash.
Walker, 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, was found running naked.
“Officers saw (Walker) running naked along Avenue 9 near Road 36, near a driveway at a private residence. He then charged the CHP vehicle and opened the driver’s door of the patrol vehicle. The officer moved the vehicle away, tried to block him ... and then attempted to get Walker on the ground. He refused to obey commands. A Madera County Sheriff’s officer arrived and used his taser. Walker was still resisting when he was handcuffed,” McKenna said.
Walker has been charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted murder in the incident and is being held without bail.
