The Madera Tribune received the following comments online about articles and local happenings. Church installs new mosaic

St. Joachim Catholic Church restored a large wall mural that was damaged by a windstorm in April 2016.

Madera Police Chief Steve Frazier, still in uniform, was appointed interim city manager by the Madera City Council at the end of an almost two-hour council meeting Dec. 20.

“April Molina” wrote, “It would be nice if the paper printed the brown act along with other laws. There are laws that have to be followed when a city council person speaks or doesn’t speak. I have had no trouble speaking one on one with any of the council members.”

“Bobby Sheikh” wrote, “There should be an independent and unbiased investigation into Madera city hall corruption and high salaries. This is not transparency and justice to people of this madera community. He is part of the same good ole boy club…”

Jim Taubert, executive director of the Successor Agency to the Former Madera Redevelopment Agency, has announced his plans to retire after 37 years with the City of Madera and Madera County.

“Anne Lozano” wrote, “You’re a great man Jim Taubert and will be missed!”

“John Wright” wrote, “Congrats Jim, enjoy your grandkids. Spending time with them is a good enough reason to retire.”

Rave — Madera Unified School District trustees voted to make Al Galvez school board president for the third year in a row Dec. 12. “Michelle Garcia” wrote, “This shows the confidence the Trustees have in his abilities.”

“Jack Porter” wrote, “Al will be a nice replacement to the boorish bullying of David Rogers.”

Rave — The Madera Animal Shelter recently announced having dogs available for adoption. “Jim Curry” wrote, “I am praying that someone steps up & takes this ole boy home for the holidays!! I shared this post!!”

Rave — Chowchilla Police Chief Riviere, was awarded the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Executive Certificate recently. “Jim Curry” wrote, “Congratulations Chief!”

Rant — Hayward California Highway Patrol Area Officer Andrew Camilleri died in the line of duty at a stop I-880 southbound at the Winton on ramp. “Gale Snider” wrote, “So sad.”

Rave — Bill Coate wrote about the 60 mile flume, which gave birth to Madera and carried more than a billion board feet of lumber from the mountains toward the mill near where Millview School now stands, in a recent column. “Melissa Rollins” wrote, “Ronald M.Perez...this is the six mile house.”

Rave — Christmas was made merrier for dozens of local residents as Madera County Sheriff’s deputies blessed them during their third annual Operation Random Kindness on Dec. 22, according to sierranewsonline. “JD Jass” wrote, “Very proud of the Sheriffs office and the partnership in the community to make this happen. GREAT JOB!”

Rave — St. Joachim Catholic Church announced a blessing of the new mosaic of Saint Joachim following the 4 p.m. Christmas Vigil Mass on Sunday (Dec. 24). “Cindy Chidlaw Diaz” wrote, “It is AWESOME. Just love the bright colors. Merry Christmas.”

Rave — CAL FIRE held a Celebration of Life for CAL FIRE Engineer Cory Iverson on Dec. 23. Iverson was killed in the line of duty while battling the Thomas Fire in Venture County. “Cindy Chidlaw Diaz” wrote, “RIP THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.”

Rave — Reedley College announced former news anchor George Takata is the new director of marketing and communications for the State Center Community College District. “Sharon Bell Stevens” wrote, “Congratulations.”

Rant — Anthony Salvatierra, 21, was arrested by Madera Police Department detectives and the Special Investigations Unit for the homicide of Isaiah McGuire which occurred Dec. 17. “Franco Gil” wrote (translated from Spanish), “The little devil’s face is not removed.”

Rave — The Madera Police Department detained Jose Osorio-Antonio on suspicion of DUI after receiving a report from a citizen that Osorio-Antonio’s vehicle was swerving across the road. “Jim Curry” wrote, “Good job MPD.”

Rave — Madera City Councilman Will Oliver recently lauded the Madera Police Department and Panchito’s Mexican Restaurant for providing food to the homeless in Madera. “AnNa Zavala” wrote, “We are blessed to help out the people in need.”

“Zeniada Nash” chimed in, “The food is delicious. I can say that is the best Mexican food in Madera. Thank you Panchito’s. You guys Rock.”

Rant — Estevanico Goldsmith, 45, was shot and killed Christmas morning, according to KFSN News. “Lisa Johnston Moser” wrote, “My prayers for his family. I knew his boys when they were in elementary school, they were good kids.”

Rave — Madera County Probation recently recognized staff for their service to the county with awards. “Ashley Celest Ramirez” wrote, “Dana Elliott I kept trying to find your picture lol.” “Dana Elliott” replied, “Apparently there is another Dana Elliott.”
