Murder in park: Victim shot in car at McNally

Madera Police are looking for suspects in a fatal shooting that took place in the city at McNally Park.

According to a press release by Madera Police Chief Steve Frazier, police were dispatched to the crime scene at 825 S. A St. after police were contacted about sounds of gunfire at approximately 8:59 p.m. on Monday.

On arriving, they found the victim, Jose Pacheco Ordaz, 28, in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced Ordaz dead at the scene. Madera Police Det. Sgt. Johnnie Smith said Ordaz was the only person in the vehicle.

There is no known motive for the murder, and Smith said there was no indication Ordaz had any gang involvement.

There may, however, have been an altercation before the shooting, and according to Frazier, investigators believe that there may have been at least two suspects that approached Ordaz’s vehicle on foot.

“At that time, between 8:30 and 9, the park was full of people, and we encourage anybody that may have seen something to come forward, and talk to us,” Smith said.

Potential witnesses can contact Madera Police Det. John Rosel at 675-4243.
