STRANDED YOSEMITE HIKER FOUND WITH BROKEN LEG — A hiker from Great Britain who was stranded for 15 days with a broken leg in a remote section of Yosemite National Park was airlifted to safety Friday.

The first weekend of the month means it is Madera yard sale weekend. If we are lucky this time next month the drought will have broken and El Nino will have blessed us with an enormous rainstorm.

This year’s Old Timers Day, with its parade and gathering in Courthouse Park, is an important piece of Madera’s past.
I’ve always enjoyed this month in our town. With Labor Day picnics and barbecues marking the unofficial end of summer and the weather slowly cooling, this place is set for some fun.
