Except for a rocky fourth inning, Madera South Stallions pitchers Jorge Gutierrez and Nathan Ruiz overpowered the Sunnyside Wildcats for a 3-2 victory and a combined no-hitter.

Gutierrez was shaky during a fourth inning, but was solid the rest of the way. He struck out 12, but walked six and hit four batters. He lasted 5 2/3 innings before he reached his maximum pitch count to pick up the win.

“Jorge didn’t have his best stuff today,” head coach Alan Sandoval said. “Good pitchers find a way to get it done and he did that tonight. He has that thing like Murf Gray last year. You know it’s going to be okay and with Jorge, it’s going to be okay. No one was warming up until he hit 90 pitches.”
