Route change for salvaged 9/11 beam

The new route for the 9/11 beam, as it will be escorted through the city.

 

Madera County announced the receipt of a 14-foot steel beam salvaged from the Twin Tower attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

On Saturday, the beam will travel through Madera County for the citizens to view. The beam will be escorted by area firefighters, law enforcement, and the American Legion Motorcycle Riders. Please see the graphic for updated route.


The escorted beam will arrive at the City of Madera Fire Station No. 58 (2558 Condor Dr. Madera, CA 96367), where a press conference will be held beginning at 11 a.m. This press conference will be limited to Elected Officials, first responders, and media.


The beam will also be available for viewing at several local events:


May 30 — Memorial Day Ceremony — Courthouse Park


June 16 — Business Extravaganza — Hatfield Hall


July 4 — Fireworks Show — Madera Fairgrounds


Sept. 8-11— Madera Fair


Sept. 24 — Old Timers’ Day Parade


The beam will lead the Old Timers’ Day Parade. At the conclusion of the parade, a beam resting ceremony will take place in Courthouse Park, as the beam will be lifted and placed on its permanent resting monument. This event will be open to the public.
