Ribbon cutting for new freeway bridge

Caltrans and local dignitaries cut the ribbon for the Cottonwood Creek Bridge Replacement Project on Tuesday.

Caltrans held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Cottonwood Creek Bridge Replacement project in Madera County Tuesday morning.

The project on State Route 99 replaced three aging bridges near Avenue 12. The $36.8 million project was made possible by $26 million in funding from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and $10 million in funding from Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

The Cottonwood Creek Bridge Replacement Project represents the continued partnership between Caltrans and the Madera County Transportation Commission. The project replaced both two-lane bridges and one-lane offramp bridge that cross Cottonwood Creek. Now there is a single four-lane bridge for both northbound and southbound traffic. The project’s groundbreaking happened back in April of 2023.
