Attendees join hands and unite as they sing “We Shall Overcome” at the conclusion of the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at MLK Middle School on January 14. The event was hosted by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Local Host Committee.

A cross-section of Madera’s population gathered at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School to honor the memory of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and to celebrate the legacy that he left to all Americans.

The theme for this year was, “I, Too, Have a Dream,” and students at local schools were encouraged to write essays on that topic.

Tina Tenyenhuis, principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, opened the January 14 ceremony, and served as emcee for the afternoon. Donald Holley, President of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Local Host Committee, gave a brief opening address, welcoming attendees to the event.
