We don’t know for sure when Marge Medellin decided to enter Madera politics, but we do know she went public with her decision in late 1977.
By early 1978, she was developing a platform. Through the press, she was pushing for industrial jobs, controlled growth, political trust, and proper use of tax money.
Marge had her hands full in that first run for public office. Nine other residents also announced their intention to run for one of the open seats on the City Council, including councilmen Roy Ben Lyon, Eddie Boyle, and Sam Price. Adding to this was the fact that no woman had ever served on the Madera City Council, especially a Latina resident.
