Madera Wrestling Club opens its doors

More than 125 people attended Madera Wrestling Club’s Grand Opening on Saturday, in Madera’s first, and only, wrestling facility.

Madera Wrestling Club founder and president Sal Gonzalez had a smile across his face the entire time he was meeting and greeting people that came up to him during an open house for his new facility, the only wrestling-only facility in Madera.

Gonzalez said building a facility like he did was something he had been wanting to do since he was a high school wrestler in Merced.

“It was a moment for me,” he said. “It didn’t hit me because it’s been so many years. When I started wrestling, I always wanted to do something like this. I wasn’t always the best kid. I feel this is doing something right in the community I live in.”
