Madera’s AAUW re-starts 5K run

In 2014, the Madera Branch of American Association of University Women had their first 5K fun run.

It was held at Lions Town and Country Park and then moved to Cedar Creek in 2015. This year’s race will be held at Cedar Creek on Saturday, at 8 a.m., with registration at 7 a.m.

The money raised in this event helps fund local scholarships for high school graduates. Proceeds will also be used to sponsor middle school students to attend the annual Tech Trek at Fresno State University, a summer camp which aims to inspire girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Thanks to generosity of Cedar Creek, it has been a positive place to have a run. The AAUW will also have the expertise of retired educator Michael Lennemann and of current educator and runner, Benny Madrigal.

Runners will be provided with a T-shirt and a pancake breakfast at the end of the race. Runners can register on runsignup, Active.com, visit the club’s facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AAUWMadera, or visit madera-ca.aauw.net for an application.
