Letters: MID gives thanks to Coate

We would like to thank Bill Coate for his recent articles and remembrance of the Borden Chinese Cemetery. Although Madera Irrigation District (MID or District) cannot alter what occurred 30-years ago; today, we would also like to recognize the significance of the Borden Chinese Cemetery that we, as MID staff and directors, have the honor of passing and viewing every day across from our office.

Throughout the years, MID has assisted both the cemetery itself and other organizations, like the Grub Gulch Chapter of E Clampus Vitus (Clampers), in maintaining and improving the cemetery. MID aided the Clampers in restoring the monument after a car accident almost destroyed it a few years ago. MID has also performed weed abatement and litter removal to assist the cemetery and maintain the aesthetic of the area.

Madera Irrigation District is proud of the history that surrounds Madera. As an organization that has been in existence over 102 years, MID has played a significant role in the history and development of the community of Madera and wishes to preserve that history, not just of ourselves but of all of those who formed this great place we call home.

— Thomas Greci,

on behalf of Madera Irrigation District and the board of directors
