Hispanic Heritage Month — enriching higher education

Hispanic Heritage Month is here, and we’re excited to recognize the significant contributions of Hispanic communities to the educational, social, cultural, and economic fabric of the Central Valley. These communities have enriched our cultural tapestry, driven economic growth, and played key roles in sectors such as education, healthcare, politics, and the arts. However, much remains to be done in addressing systemic barriers for Hispanic communities, particularly given the recent scrutiny of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion messaging across the country.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to reflect not just on the achievements of the past and present, but also on the opportunities we can create for the future. By continuing to advocate for and uplift Hispanic and Latinx communities, we can help ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just celebrated in words, but realized in action.

We are grateful that the State Center Community College District Trustees approved the resolution in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month for the second year in a row. Their ongoing support is crucial in uplifting and empowering Hispanic communities.
