Dairyland, Sherman Thomas win math tourney

Dairyland Elementary School’s 7th grade team and Sherman Thomas STEM Academy’s 8th grade team won first place in the overall Madera County Math Tournament in their respective competitions.


Ranchos Middle School placed in the overall 7th grade math competition and Wasuma Elementary School placed third in Friday’s competition. Mountain Home School Charter’s 8th grade team placed second in the competition and Oak Creek Intermediate School placed third at the 8th grade level.


This year, 14 schools and more than 150 students participated in the Math Tournament hosted by Madera County Superintendent of Schools and Madera County Schools Foundation. Each grade competed in a separate competition. Students took four tests: Leap Frog, Circuit Training, Mad Hatter, and Relay Race at the Madera Center.
