CVWA wrestlers win two titles at California USA Wrestling Association duals

Central Valley Wrestling Association wrestlers, including two from Madera and Madera South girls wrestling coach Eddie Cortez, show off the two trophies they won at the California USA Wrestling Association Duals last month at Fresno’s Selland Arena. 

Fresno’s Selland Arena was the host venue for the California USA Wrestling Association duals from May 16-18. 


The event comprises of several age group divisions including schoolgirls (14U), schoolboys (14U), junior boys (high school age), and junior girls (high school age). It also includes 18 associations, one of which is the Central Valley Wrestling Association (CVWA) that includes athletes from Chowchilla to Selma. 


Two ladies from Madera (Evelyn Cortez and Emma Martinez), along with their coach (Eddie Cortez) were a part of the girls team that battled at the event. Cortez, who coaches the Madera Grapplers, and is the head coach of the Madera South girls wrestling program, was selected to be head coach of the CVWA schoolgirls team.
