Madera’s Devyn Pierson reaches up for a kill attempt during Thursday’s loss to the Justin Garza Guardians.

After getting pounded in the first set, the Madera Coyotes girls volleyball team regrouped and battled tough over the final two sets against the Justin Garza Guardians in Joe Flores Gym.

The Coyotes were blitzed by the Guardians, 25-13, in the first set. However, the Coyotes came back and held late leads in a 25-20 loss in the second set and a 25-19 loss in the third set.

Madera only managed 23 kills, and didn’t have a hitter with more than four. Belia Magana, Devyn Pierson and Aaliyah String led the Coyotes with four kills each.
