Madera’s Frankie Espejo throws a pitch during Wednesday’s 7-0 victory over Justin Garza. Espejo didn’t allow a hit in five innings of work and struck out 12.

Despite two innings without a score, the Madera Coyotes baseball team closed its game against Justin Garza-Fresno with runs in four straight innings for a 7-0 victory in Mel Parker Field.

The Coyotes scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, and added another run in the sixth for the win. Frankie Espejo held the Guardians hitless over five innings. Of the 15 outs Espejo recorded, 12 were by strikeout.

“Frankie did well,” head coach Andy Underwood said. “He was missing up. He hadn’t thrown in nine days. It’s been a little while. He’s good. He just has to stay in the zone more.”
