Coyotes open year with rout

Madera’s Rhynne Mitchell drives to the bucket to score two of her game-high 20 points in Friday’s rout over the Yosemite Badgers. She also had six steals and hit four 3-pointers. 

 

The Madera Coyotes girls basketball team opened 2024 in style with a 55-13 rout of the Yosemite Badgers in Joe Flores Gym on Friday. 


The Coyotes held the Badgers to just two points in the second and fourth quarters. They blew open the game with a 20-0 run in the first and second quarters. 


The biggest key to the game was turnovers. The Coyotes forced 41 Yosemite turnovers and turned them into 26 points, with a number more after it changed possessions. The Badgers had 26 turnovers in the first half, and 15 more in the second half with a fourth quarter running clock.
