The Madera Coyotes girls golf team missed out on advancing to the Central Section Championships due to a tiebreaker.

The Coyotes battled in the Div. II Central Section Championships at Valley Oaks Golf Course in Visalia and ended up tied for second place with Tulare Union. However, they lost the tiebreaker, thus ending their season.

“It is an amazing accomplishment for the girls,” head coach Gary Moran said.

Sanger won the Div. II championships with a 470. Meanwhile, Madera and Tulare tied with a 503.

On the bright side, Sydney Fernandez shot an 85 and placed fourth overall after losing the tiebreaker for third place. She will advance to play in the individual championships on Monday at the San Luis Obipso Country Club.

Isabella Alvarez was second on the team with a 94. Senior Mallory Trull shot a 101 in her last match for Madera.

“Isabella played great” Moran said. “It was a breakout year for her. Mallory played fantastic. She even had a birdie today.”

Kylie Sally recorded a 109, Jayden Cuevas shot a 114 and Zoe Barriga shot a 122.

“Kylie did a great job this year,” Moran said. “Jayden had a fantastic freshman year and it was a good season for Zoe to be a big part of our lineup.”
