Madera starter Jaydian Chavira throws a pitch during Wednesday’s 13-1 victory over Matilda Torres. Chavira didn’t allow a run in  five innings of work with five strikeouts and allowed two hits.

The Madera Coyotes took advantage of 12 walks and three hit batters to record a 13-1 victory over the Matilda Torres Toros in the first game of the season for both teams Wednesday at Mel Parker Field.

The Coyotes used two walks to score a run in the first, and then added six runs in the third inning to put the game away.

“The game plan for these guys is to put up zeros in the first inning because it’s the first game of the year,” Madera head coach Andy Underwood said.
