Madera’s Annaiya Franco returns a hit during Tuesday’s No. 1 singles match. Franco, Madera’s lone senior, recorded a straight-set win to lead the Coyotes to a 5-2 team win over Fresno.

With a much deeper team, Madera Coyotes head coach Victor Ramirez is hoping to get the girls tennis team one step further than last year.

Last year, the Coyotes marched through the Div. V Central Section playoffs as the No. 8 seed, and won the quarterfinal and semifinal matches on the road before losing to No. 2 Fresno Christian in the championship.

This year, the Coyotes earned the No. 4 seed in Div. V, and began their quest with a 5-2 victory over No. 13 Fresno, but it didn’t come without some worry.
