AAUW honors scholarship recipients

For The Madera Tribune

Reflecting what the AAUW camp scholarship means to them, from left, Gloria Valdivia, Camila Sosa Ramirez and Alicia Velasco shared their thoughts during a dinner on October 9.

Recipients of the American Association of University Women annual ‘Tech Trek’ scholarship were treated to a private dinner and an opportunity to share with AAUW members what the scholarship means to them on October 9.

Since 1881 the AAUW has been a leading advocate in the fight for gender equity elimination of the pay gap many women experience as opposed to their gender counterparts in the workplace, many women still receiving less than 85 percent as men with similar education and experience in many career fields. Through education, training, and strong lobbying, the organization works to empower women to stand up for equal pay in the workplace and and the promotion application process. Chapters of the organization are now found nationwide.

The Madera chapter will soon be celebrating its 75th anniversary.
