Residents propose term limits for supes

A ballot measure has been filed by residents to limit Madera County Supervisors to a total of two, four-year terms.

Currently supervisors can serve indefinitely, unless they are defeated in an election or retire.

According to the Madera County Elections Department, the measure requires approximately 3,800 signatures of registered voters to be placed upon the November 2020 ballot. Once on the November ballot a simple majority of yes votes will then enact the measure.

Proponents say the measure is needed to limit the influence of special interests, increase accountability and transparency, and ensure county supervisors work full time for the benefit of all Madera residents.
