Junior golf tour to open at Dragonfly Golf Club

Beginning October 26 at Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera, elite golfers ages 14-18 with a handicap of 9.5 or less are invited to take part in a two-day, 36-hole tournament.

The winner of the Main Event Junior Golf Tournament receives a $750 gift card, second place receives $425, third gets $375, fourth receives $200 and fifth place wins $125. The gift cards are approved by the USGA, CIF and doesn’t affect the amateur status of the golfer.

To sign up, there is a $50 membership fee that runs through December 31, 2020 and each tournament is $300 for members and $315 for non-members.

Dragonfly is the main event course because it is the home course to many high schools in the Central Valley.

“This is a great opportunity for young golfers in the area to get some experience playing in prize-based golf tournaments,” said Michel Lucas the founder and director of the tour. “I wish this type of tournament was around when I was younger.”

The tour wants to bring a very competitive junior-tour atmosphere that brings out talents that some juniors didn’t know that they had.

Playing in a very competitive field with performance-based gift cards will make every shot count and reward the hard work and dedication of every junior that will be a member of The Main Event Tour.

The USGA rule states that, “An amateur golfer must not accept a prize (other than a symbolic prize) or prize voucher of retail value in excess of $750 or the equivalent, or such a lesser figure as may be decided by the Governing Body. This limit applies to the total prizes or prize vouchers received by an amateur golfer in any one competition or series of competitions.”

Registration is now open, but deadlines vary depending on the event. Golfers are encouraged to sign up for multiple dates because its first come, first serve for all events.

Dragonfly is one of two courses part of the Main Event Junior Golf Tour. The other is located in Lompoc, California called La Purisima Golf Course. The MEJGT will hold a tour there November 9-10, December 7-8, January 18-19, February 15-16, March 14-15 and April 18-19.

While the tour takes place at Dragonfly on October 26-27, November 16-17, December 14-15, January 25-26, February 22-23, March 21-22 and April 25-26.

Also, college coaches will be in attendance as well.
