City to get $11.3M grant
Funding to help build low-cost housing units
The City of Madera has been awarded an $11.3 million grant to build low-cost housing at East 5th and North C Streets in Downtown Madera.
On completion, the project will offer 48 units for low-income residents.
The grant comes from the state, and is derived from money raised through pollution-mitigation taxes.
The idea is to build housing close to transit facilities so that residents of the project would not have to use their automobiles to get around, thus lowering the amount of atmospheric carbon.
