Youth Art Month to begin with drawing exhibit
The Madera County Arts Council will kick off Youth Art Month Saturday, March 2, by sponsoring a chalk art contest and exhibition at the Circle Gallery, 424 N. Gateway Drive.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. and run to noon, followed by an awards ceremony and a reception that will conclude at 3 p.m. The theme is, “What Does Music Look Like to You?”
This event is free and open to the public.
The Youth Art Month Exhibition will be on view from March 1 through 29, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Appetizers for the reception will be provided by Madera South High School culinary students. Organizers are: Madera South High School Art Teachers Katie Howden, Sheila Kincade and Adam Mena, and MUSD administrator, Dr. Marcheta Williams.
Youth Art Month in Madera was inaugurated in 2012 by the Office of the Mayor and the City of Madera, with the support of the Madera City Council and City of Madera’s Parks and Community Services Department. It is recognized that art constitutes an important part of the Madera Community and adds to the human development of area youth.
Youth Art Month was created to encourage young artists by offering a professional exhibition space for their work.
