Madera schools earn home games in playoffs

Four of the six bat and ball teams from Madera, Madera South and Liberty received home games in the upcoming Central section baseball and softball playoffs.

The Madera Coyotes baseball team earned to highest seed amongst Madera schools with a No. 3 seed in the Div. II baseball playoffs.

Madera earned a first round bye and will host the winner of No. 6 Sanger and No. 11 Sunnyside-Fresno in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Madera South baseball team wasn’t given much credit for its tough play throughout the County/Metro Athletic Conference that resulted in a 4-11 record with five extra inning games and competitive battles with Bullard-Fresno, Sanger and Madera.

The Stallions earned the No. 14 seed and played Tuesday in the first round against Central Sequoia League champion Selma, the No. 3 seed, which beat the Stallions, 4-3, in March. The winner plays Thursday against No. 6 Immanuel-Reedley and Reedley.

The Hawks tied for second (with Chowchilla) in the North Sequoia League and earned a No. 4 seed in the Div. V playoffs. Liberty received a first round bye and hosts No. 5 Rosamond or No. 12 Corcoran on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

In softball, the Coyotes return to Div. I after finishing second in the CMAC. Madera opens the playoffs today as the No. 5 seed and hosts No. 12 Clovis North. Madera defeated the Broncos, 9-6 in nine innings, in March.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The winner plays either No. 4 Stockdale-Bakersfield or No. 13 Centennial-Bakersfield.

The Stallions picked up an important win against Sanger in the CMAC and it helped them earn a No. 7 seed in the Div. IV playoffs. They open today against No. 10 Hoover-Fresno at 4:30 p.m. The winner plays at No. 2 Chowchilla on Friday.

The Liberty Hawks may feel kind of burned with their No. 9 seed. They open the playoffs today against No. 8 Kerman at 4:30 p.m. It’s the same Kerman team the Hawks defeated 9-2 last week. It was last week’s loss 9-8 to Chowchilla that dropped the Coyotes into a tie for second in the NSL.
