Owners of abandoned dog sought

DJ Becker/The Madera Tribune Animal Control Officer D. Gamble holds a neglected poodle found near Oregon Avenue Tuesday. The dog, now named Cleo, was partially blinded by massive eye infections.

An apparently abandoned female poodle was found wandering with a pomeranian mix dog near Oregon Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, and authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating her owners.

The 4- or 5-year-old dog was friendly, thin, and blind in one eye from and oozing infection, leaving animal control officers to wonder how she had gotten very far.

The dog was also matted and filthy, signs the dog had apparently been put outside in a yard and ignored, animal shelter workers thought.

Anyone with information on the possible owner of the poodle is asked to call Madera County Animal Control at 675-7891.

Donations for the medical care of the dog, now named Cleo, and other sick or injured animals can be sent to Friends of Madera Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 923, Madera CA, 93639.
