Inside the Game: Liberty Hawks 63, Sierra Chieftains 0

Player of the game: Rylan Howe sits behind the scenes as the third leading rusher behind the Roth brothers and the third leading tackler, also behind the Roth brothers. However, Howe rushed for 91 yards on seven carries, averaging 13 yards a rush. He ran over defenders and dragged defenders for the tough yards. He also manned the outside and led the Hawks with eight tackles, including two solo tackles.

Unsung hero of the game: Liberty Head coach Mike Nolte’s biggest worry after Friday’s victory was the status of Tahner Green, who went down with an injury on the first play of the second half. Green is a key component to the Liberty defense at a hybrid safety/linebacker position. He also is on special teams and backs up all three running back positions. He had five carries for 31 yards and scored a touchdown. He also had four tackles, three of them for losses.

Play of the game: The Hawks scored a touchdown on every one of their possessions. The play of the game came on their final touchdown of the first half, a 45-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Roth. The play went almost exactly how Nolte drew it up. Tackle Francisco Rojas blocked down on the linebacker, opening a hole around the left side. Right guard Nick Hayes pulled around to an open hole. He went about 10 yards before he demolished the Sierra safety. Roth went, virtually, untouched for Liberty’s seventh touchdown of the half.

Drive of the game: With the game already deep in hand, the Hawks held a 49-0 lead to open the second half. Nolte quickly went to his bench. Green carried for an eight-yard gain. Then, Greyson Hoelzel hit Gregory Reitz for five yards and a first down. Two runs by Howe went for 23 yards to the Sierra 31. Keaton Ellis carried for 14 yards. Jarred Castaneda went for eight to the nine-yard line. His brother Jacob carried for two yards and a first down. Ellis got the call for a three-yard run and William Bucaroff finished the drive with a four-yard touchdown run on his first carry of the season.
