Howard 4-H kicks-off the year

The Howard 4-H club met on Sept. 11 for its first meeting of the new school year. The meeting was called to order by the 2017-2018 president, Teyha Abrahams, who introduced the new officers to the 55 members in attendance.

A brief business meeting was conducted, which included the announcement of the club’s first community service project of the new year. The club will be collecting donations for the Madera County Animal Shelter at the next meeting.

Following the business meeting, project leaders introduced themselves and the projects they are offering. Members were then given the opportunity to sign up for the projects of their choosing, which include: aerospace/ rocketry, arts and crafts, beginning and 1st-4th year cooking, beginning 4-H, community pride, demonstrations, sewing, shooting sports (riffle and handgun), tennis, beef, dairy cattle, meat and pygmy goats, horse, poultry, rabbits, sheep-west, and swine.

At the close of the meeting, new and returning members enjoyed an ice cream social. They shared 4-H memories and their excitement for things to come.

The Madera County 4-H Youth Program is a non profit organization for youths who are 9-19-years-old or those younger who have completed the third grade.All youth and adults in Madera County are invited to participate in the 4-H Program regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, mental or physical handicap.
