Galvez to serve on United Way board
Madera Unified Board President Al Galvez has been elected to serve on the board of directors of United Way Fresno and Madera Counties.
Galvez has been elected to serve a three-year-term. He said he has had ties to United Way since the early 2000s and was approached less than two years ago about joining its board.
“I decided to wait and monitor the direction the search for a new leader would take,” Galvez said. “With Lindsay Callahan as president CEO, and the high standards she has set for the organization, I know that United Way will become a leader in the nonprofit community in both Fresno and Madera counties.”
His desire to support Callahan in her goals led him to join the board, he said.
The board consists of 16 members and seven officers. Other local board members are City Councilman Derek Robinson, director Jerry Franksen of the Madera campus for San Joaquin Valley College, and deputy director Hikiran Sandhu of Madera County Department of Social Services.
