Weather clears up for Eggstravaganza

While there was significant overcast and some rain the previous day, the weather was clear for the annual City of Madera Eggstravaganza.

The Easter egg hunt at Lions Town and Country Park saw near 3,000 people come to hunt for eggs, ride the slides, and have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny on Saturday morning.

The event put on by the City of Madera Parks and Community Services Department, was headed by Mary Anne Seay, along with City Councilwoman Cecelia Foley-Gallegos, who helped bring the event back three decades ago.

“The Parks and Community Services department offers a variety of programs to bring the community together,” Seay said. “It’s all about creating a sense of place, and having families have recreational opportunities for their children.”

More than 10,000 eggs were donated to the hunt by McDonald’s restaurant. The eggs were decorated by children involved in various programs with the parks department. Plastic eggs were also provided.

“It’s really family-oriented,” said Cecilia Sepin, a participant in the festivities, “so it’s really fun to come out here and just see all the families enjoy themselves.”

Sepin, who brought her own family, comes annually, and said that she has done so for about 10 years.
