Madera High to present ‘The Crucible’

Coyote Drama Productions and International Thespian Society Troupe 8160 plan to present the Tony Award-winning play “The Crucible” on Thursdays through Saturdays for the last two weeks of this month.

Drama teacher James Gunn, of Madera High School, said “The Crucible” explores the effects of paranoia for the 1692 village of Salem, Massachusetts. Accusations of witchcraft lead to shock, fear, hysteria, and lost innocence.

Playwright Arthur Miller wrote the 1953 drama as a safe, indirect protest of the public hunt for communists in the State Department and Hollywood at the time, he later admitted in an article for The New Yorker.

The local production wil be 7:30 p.m. April 20-22 and 26-29 in the Coyote Arena Theatre at the rear side of the Madera High School cafeteria, 200 South L St. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for adults at $10 and for students and those age 55 and older at $5.
