Week remains for Youth Art Month exhibit

A week remains of the Madera County Arts Council’s exhibit of artwork by local young artists for Youth Art Month at the Circle Gallery, which recently hosted an artist’s reception.

“We are very happy to support the youth art in Madera. We have some really talented artists here,” said Rochelle Noblett, executive director of the council.

The exhibit features over 100 artwork entries from Madera High, Madera South High, Yosemite High and Desmond Middle schools. The middle school art categories are painting, mixed media and drawing, while the high school categories add 3D and digital artwork. Todd Lile, interim superintendent for Madera Unified School District, judged the submissions.

Adam Mena, an art teacher from Madera South High School, curated the art show with the help of teachers from Desmond Middle School, Madera High School, Madera South High School, and Yosemite High School.

Last weekend, about six high school students drew chalk art pieces for a “Word Art” chalk art contest outside the gallery, creating pieces about groovy-minded people, courage, anxiety, space, and faith. Inside the gallery, young artists accepted first through third place ribbons, more than 100 visitors admired their work, and Madera High choir/guitar teacher Jonas Anderson and his students from Madera High played music.
