STEM meeting to be Tuesday

The Rev. Roger Leach and Jamie Brock stand on what Leach calls “A field of Dreams,” the site where they intend to build Sherman Thomas STEM Academy, on the east side of Valley West Christian Center. Brock will be at Starbucks on Howard Road today from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to provide information and answer questions.

An informational meeting will be held Tuesday at 101 W. Adell St., for parents and students interested in enrolling in the Sherman Thomas STEM Academy, a new, free charter middle school focusing on science, technology, engineering and math.

According to principal Jamie Brock, the school will teach all middle school subjects, including the arts and humanities, integrating the concepts of STEM.

The school will be the third bearing the Sherman Thomas name, Brock said. The other two are Sherman Thomas Charter School, for kindergarten through 8th grade; and Sherman Thomas Charter High School.

The new school will have one class per grade level, Brock said, with approximately 75 students total.

The enrollment period will end March 17.

Further information is available on a website, shermanthomasacademy.org or by contacting Brock at jabrock@stcs.k12.ca.us or 871-5490.
