Mother always said, “Pretty is as pretty does.”
When the lady of the manor dresses for the grand ball, she checks her coiffure, cosmetics and the little black dress that almost makes the perfect outfit. Adding a manicure and pedicure completes her look. Although many women try to make their signature looks seem effortless getting dressed up is time consuming.
Diva Nails, 1643 N. Schnoor Ave. in Madera, has nine manicure stations and eight pedicure chairs while employing a staff of 12 manicurists, two cosmetologists and two estheticians. Services offered include facials, eyelash extensions and waxing for an eyebrow arch and the removal of unwanted facial hair.
Open seven days a week, its business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Manicurist Michela Lind has worked at Diva since 2003. She and her husband, Matt, both Madera residents since childhood, were high school sweethearts and are parents to two young daughters.
“I like working here because everyone is so friendly,” said Lind. “We are very family oriented and promote a relaxing, drama-free environment.”
Prices vary, depending on services desired. A simple mani-pedi combo with polish on natural nails starts at $35. Add-ons, such as salt-scrub, callus removal and nail art are extra. Application of a full-set of acrylic nails is $20 with a fill costing $15.
“We have the largest color selection of gel polish in Madera,” Lind said. “The addition of gel polish extends the life of a set of nails by several weeks.”
She is an artist who paints nail decorations free-hand. Embellishments can include gold leaf, rhinestones and Swarovski crystals.
Scheduling an appointment is highly recommended, but walk-ins on a first-come-first-serve basis are welcome. A typical pedicure takes 30 to 45 minutes and 60 to 90 minutes are required for a set of acrylics.
A man’s mani is $12 and pedicures are $23.
