Inside the Game: Liberty Hawks 63, Fowler Redcats 0

Players of the game: It was almost like what you can do, I can do as well for the Roth brothers. Older brother Wyatt scored a 70-yard touchdown on the game’s third play and finished with 145 yards on just eight carries (18.1 yards per carry) while scoring two touchdown. Younger brother Kaleb was just as efficient, carrying 14 times for 87 yards and he also scored two touchdowns. In all, the Roths accounted for 232 yards rushing on 22 carries (10.5 yards per carry) and four touchdowns in Liberty’s 63-0 win over Fowler.

Unsung heroes of the game: Like most linemen, the only time you hear their name is when they do something wrong. You hear offensive line coach Randy Melvin scream at players to hold their blocks longer or just to scream at them. However, there are times where Melvin gives them praise. He had plenty of praise to give Friday night to his offensive line of Bret Cazares, Cory Hiatt, Harrison Caetano, Ethan Clark, Anthony Imirian and tight end John Clay Cowger. They opened holes for 391 yards rushing, averaging almost eight yards a carry.

Play of the game: The Hawks set the tone early. Two plays early to be exact. From the 30, Markie Brandt handed off to Wyatt Roth off left tackle. Going through a gaping hole created by a pulling Hiatt and tackle Brett Cazares, Roth was untouched for a 70-yard touchdown run, a career-long, just 44 seconds into the game.

Drive of the game: It’s hard to pick one drive when nine of Liberty’s 13 drives resulted in touchdowns. Let’s select Liberty’s second touchdown drive of the game, which was the longest. Starting at their own six, Roth carried for eight yards and Kaleb Roth got the first down with a three-yard run. Brandt carried for 10 and another first down. On third-and-10, Brandt lofted a pass down the left sideline. Wyatt Johnson outleaped his defender and came down with the ball for a 43-yard gain to the 24-yard line. Christian Baker broke through the middle to score on the next play for a 14-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
