Thorn and Zampa roll into victory lane at the Madera Speedway

Race fans enjoyed a beautiful California summer night and some high-quality racing action at the LoanMart Madera Speedway.

The Saturday night headliner was the Spears Southwest Tour Race for Autism 125, but prior to the headliner, one of the undercards put on the race of the night in the Madera Late Models that ended with a young driver picking up his first victory.

The Race for Autism 125 capped off the night and it was Derek Thorn that seized early control of the 18-car field in the 125-lap race. Thorn proceeded to dominate by putting every car except the top five cars a lap down on his way to victory lane. Bobby Hodges was the only car that was able to keep pace with Thorn, but Hodges was never able to get close enough to make a bid for the lead. There was only one caution flag in the event and it was Thorn that found victory lane followed by Hodges, Jacob Gomes, Christian McGhee, and Craig Raudman for the top five.

The Madera Late Model Series is the tune-up/feeder division to the MAVTV televised LoanMart Series and the drivers in this class showed off side-by-side in what many considered to be the race of the night.

Jason Aguirre and young Logan Zampa exchanged the lead multiple times in the side-by-side battle in the 40-lap main event with a pack of two-by-two racing right on their bumpers that included drivers Rick Thompson, Justin Dukes, Loren Kutz, Shelden Cooper, Dillion Tucker and Trevor Schlundt.

At the checkered flag, Zampa picked up his first late model victory with Aguirre right on his back bumper for second place, followed by Tucker for third, Thompson in fourth, Schlundt in fifth, and Cooper in sixth.

Other winners of the night included Rian Bowman in the Mini Super Toyotas, Jeremy Woods in the Legends of the Pacific, Jillian Holden in the Toyota Sedans, Joseph Reichmuth in the Super Hobby Stocks, and Kyle Keller in the exhibition Jr. Late Model Series race.

The next race event at the LoanMart Madera Speedway is on July 30 with Round No. 5 of the televised LoanMart Late Model Series and the 51FIFTY Jr. Late Model Series. The undercard includes the Super Hobby Stock Series, MST, Toyota Sedans, Mini Cup, and the Legends of the Pacific.

As a bonus, all ticket prices have been cut for the July 30 race, event thanks to sponsorship from LoanMart, MAVTV, Lucas Oil and 51FIFTY Energy Drink. Adult tickets are only $15, seniors and military are only $13, youth ages 6-12 are only $7, and kids five and under are free. For information, visit www.racemadera.com.
