NAACP honors 4 at banquet
The Madera Chapter of the NAACP handed out awards at its annual scholarship fund-raising banquet Saturday.
Recipients included the Rev. Becky Goodwin of Madera United Methodist Church; Michelle Alexander, who has a master’s degree in psychology and counsels youth; Marvin Baker, former vice principal of Jack G. Desmond Middle School; and Alyssa Leighton Smith, a law student and first runner-up in the Miss California Pageant.
The awards, given for service to the cause of civil rights, were presented by NAACP vice president Patricia Alexander.
