Madera Future Farmers of America named state champions
SAN LUIS OBISPO — This year’s California FFA State Finals were held at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo on May 7th. Over 2,000 students from high schools across California competed in 21 events throughout the day.
Madera FFA had eight teams competing at the contest this year. Two taking first place and the other six placing in the top 10 of their contest.
These contests included everything from livestock judging to marketing and our members were judged by industry professionals, Cal Poly Staff and community volunteers. All of the teams were competing for state championships and many for a chance to compete at the National contests in November.
Our Meat Quality Judging team placed first out of 13 teams. The senior team placed extremely well with Delaney Morales placing 4th, Jasbir Singh 3rd, Mario Alvarez placing 2nd and Clayton Sheehan placing 1st in the contest. The meat judging contests has multiple components including calculating yield grade of carcass, a test on the meat industry, identifying meat cuts and judging carcasses of lamb, pork and beef.
