Coyotes get top seed after shutout win over Stallions

Fresh off its 13-0 victory over crosstown rivals Madera South, the Madera Coyotes softball team were named top seed in the Central Section Div. II playoffs.

Coyote pitcher Destiny Ricks tossed a three-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts in the victory Friday to close the regular season.

Coyote leftfielder Aaliyah Cuevas anchored the top of the order by driving in five runs, scoring four on two doubles, a triple and a single.

The top four batters in the Coyote order — Taylor Brooks, Tea Layne, Cuevas and Emily Chavira — went a combined 12-of-16 (.750) with two doubles, two triples, 11 runs and seven RBIs...
