Coyotes get series win

After having to deal with adversity he has never seen before, Madera Coyote baseball coach Andy Underwood was more than pleased to see his team battle back to score four runs in the sixth inning for a 7-4 season finale victory over crosstown rivals Madera South.

Behind the right arm and bat of Nick Martinez, the Coyotes battled back from a 4-2 deficit to score the final five runs of the game for the victory Friday night.

“It was a struggle offensively and defensively, but nobody quit on our team,” Underwood said. “The momentum was shifting back and forth in the first few innings. I thought, defensively, they left the door open for us. It went both ways. We made our share of mistakes and that’s been our M.O. this year.”

Martinez was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. He also picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit over the final 3 1/3 innings with two strikeouts...
