Howard 4-H Club serves Super Bowl Sunday breakfast

Providing funds and programs and projects for the Howard 4-H Club, members gathered on Super Bowl Sunday morning in the Joe VanAlen Hall at the Madera District Fairgrounds to serve an annual breakfast that has become a community event.
“This is the yearly fundraiser,” said Linda Galleano one of the adult volunteers for the club.
Serving sausage, scrambled eggs and pancakes, the group plans for 500 breakfasts, according to long-time event organizer Joanne Ylarregui.
There were about 30 parents preparing the food, and 40 members taking orders, serving meals and bussing the tables, she said.
No one is exactly sure how long this annual event has been held but it is at least 30 years and maybe longer, Ylarregui said.
The fairground is the third location for the event.
“We started at Ben Hayes Hall, moved to Griffin Hall when we outgrew the Farm Bureau and have been at the fairgrounds since,” she said.
Families enjoying the festivities could be heard conversing and laughing, enjoying the event ambiance.
The extended Flores/Petrucci family was talking honeymoon destinations for the upcoming nuptials of Mark Flores and Mika Petrucci.
Bud and Betty Smith said they are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this September. Ryan and Caylin Cosyns served breakfast to father and grandfather Albert Cosyns.
