Catholic prayer breakfast planned

A local branch of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas plans to host a 3rd annual Prayer Breakfast featuring guest speaker Rev. Philip Massetti on Jan. 19.

Inspired by Luke 1:39, Massetti will speak on “Surrender and Trust Like Mary” at Holy Spouses Hall, 310 N. I St.

Massetti, a Madera native and middle child of 10, first entered a high school seminary of the Oblates of St. Joseph in 1960 at the age of 14, according to CDA member Jeanne Bryan. He joined the oblates seven years later. He is pastor of St. Joseph Marello Church in Granite Bay. He has also ministered in Mexico, India, and Nigeria.

The Oblates of Saint Joseph is an international congregation of priests and brothers dedicated to serving Jesus in imitation of his foster father.

Plans are for the Prayer Breakfast to begin with an 8 a.m. Mass at neighboring St. Joachim Church, followed by a 9-9:30 breakfast and subsequent talk, live auction, and raffle prizes.

The gathering is being organized by St. Joachim Court 2553 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the oldest Catholic women’s group in the Americas.

Tickets, which will only be sold in advance, are $15 per person or $100 per reserved table for eight people. To obtain tickets, call Jeanne at 706-0476, Adanely at 706-5519, or St. Marello Bookstore at 662-0682.
